Purchasing a car requires registration. This applies to both new and used vehicles from Poland and abroad. It is made in the communication department, which is located in the starosty in the appropriate town. This requires submitting an appropriate application and providing a complete set of documents. The new owner is also obliged to install a new license plate. What does a properly carried out car registration look like? How to remove license plates and install new ones?

Duty car registration is conditioned by Article 73. It is made at the owner's request within 30 days of purchasing the vehicle. It does not have to be done directly by the owner, but this obligation can be fulfilled by an authorized person. For this purpose, you must prepare an appropriate power of attorney. A representative may be a natural person who has legal capacity. car registration by proxy is an additional cost of PLN 17. In the case of a family, this fee is not required.

Plates - appearance and markings

Standard plates they consist of several elements. In the upper left corner there is a Euroband and below it the symbol of Poland, i.e. "PL". There is a black inscription on a white background consisting of several characters - letters and numbers. These are: the symbol of the voivodeship and the distinguishing feature of the city or poviat. Then there is the legalization sticker. The set consists of 3 stickers. These are 2 hologram stickers that we stick on the boards (30×20 mm) and one that is glued to the registration certificate (30×10 mm). In addition, it is necessary to stick an inspection sticker in the lower right corner of the windshield, which serves as a "third plate". After the symbol of the voivodeship and the distinguishing feature of the city or district on license plates there is a distinguishing feature of a specific vehicle. Plates are used to identify the vehicle. Each one is unique, no two strings of letters and numbers are the same.

Apart from the standard ones license plates we also have other types. The driver can create individual license plate. It must contain black lettering on a white background, which can be any, set by the driver. The maximum length is five characters. In addition, temporary plates are made for homologation tests and test drives. They are characterized by red font on a white background. Historic plates in historic vehicles have a yellow background and black font. Plates with a blue background and white font are used to mark diplomatic service vehicles.

It is also necessary to have a translation into Polish of all required documents prepared in a foreign language. You proceed in the same way if you register a used car purchased abroad.

Replacing license plates

Replacing license plates is necessary not only in the event of purchasing a car, but also in the event of its destruction, theft or loss. In such cases, we apply for a duplicate license plate. To do this, you must submit an appropriate application to your communications department. The procedure is similar to applying for a new one license plate. However, you keep your current vehicle registration number. Cost of issuing a duplicate license plate for a car is PLN 40 for one item and PLN 80 for two. You will pay PLN 12,50 for issuing a set of legalization signs. The registration fee will be PLN 0,50.

How to remove license plates?

But remember that license plate frames are different, which may be important both during their disassembly and assembly.

The Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure states that every vehicle approved for use on public roads should have one license plate lighting. The light must be white and ensure the visibility of the registration number. However, it cannot be directly visible from the rear of the vehicle from a distance of more than 25 m. License plate lighting it should therefore be discreet, but enable reading of the characters on it.
