From January 1, 2024, new E10 gasoline will be introduced at Polish gas stations. What is it about? Gasoline marked with the symbol E10 is slowly replacing the popular "95". What is worth knowing about this fuel? Is E10 fuel safe for your car? We explain.

  • E10 in the designation of new gasoline means that the fuel contains up to 10% biocomponents.
  • Not all cars can be refueled with E10. Some people will have to start filling the more expensive 98 petrol.
  • E10 petrol is nothing new. Fuel is available in Romania, Sweden, Lithuania, Belgium, Austria and several other countries.
  • Check how to calculate fuel consumption – use the best fuel consumption calculator!

You pull up to the gas station and look, and there is no 95 fuel that you have been filling up so far. You are stunned and don't know what to do because there is a mark on the dispenser 95 E10 petrol. You have doubts, because the manufacturer of your car recommends refueling with 95 gasoline. Don't worry... Take the gun in your hand and proceed as usual.

What is E10 petrol?

E10 petrol

E10 petrol is 95-octane fuel with a biocomponent (bioethanol) content of up to 10%. It is introduced instead of E5 gasoline, which contains twice as many biocomponents. Changing the fuel does not require any special modifications in most car models.

According to the new regulations, information about the possibility of use should be included on the fuel filler flap or in the vehicle documents E10 fuel.

Tip! If you have an older car, you will probably need to check whether it is suitable for the new type of petrol. Information on this subject can be found in the manual or on the fuel filler flap, or can also be obtained from the car manufacturer itself.

New signs at gas stations - E10 fuel

Fuel fillers

Due to the changes introduced, new signs appear at gas stations. The exact method of marking dispenser guns is specified in the Regulation of the Minister of Climate and Environment of August 31, 2021 on the method of providing information on the type of liquid fuel used to power a motor vehicle and marking refueling places.

From January 1, 2024, round, black and white stickers with the inscription E10 appear on pistols. Should you refuel with E10 fuel? Such fuel has been available at gas stations in many European countries for many years. Since 2016, they can be found in Romania, Sweden, Lithuania, Belgium, Austria and several other countries.

E10 fuel – for which cars?

E10 can be poured into the engines of most gasoline cars manufactured after January 1, 2010. A detailed list can be found on the website of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association ACEA.

This organization has prepared a report that covers the compatibility of individual brands and models, along with the year of production, with E10 petrol

What cars can be refueled with E10 petrol? There is an easy and quick way to check this. The Ministry of Climate and Environment has prepared special search engine. After entering the car manufacturer, as well as the model and year of production, we will get the results of the compatibility of engine versions with E10 fuel.

Is E10 petrol safe?

Gas pump

Not only is E10 petrol safe, but it is also used as a reference fuel for exhaust emission tests. It is believed that ePure biocomponents reduce the carbon footprint by up to 70%.. This means that E10 will be more ecological than E5 fuel.

The decision to introduce a new type of fuel is related to the negative impact of the transport sector on human health and the natural environment. Increasing the share of biocomponents allows for reducing the amount of pollutants entering the air, thus limiting the formation of smog. This step also aims to meet the EU target of 14% share of fuels from renewable raw materials in transport.

Does new gasoline affect fuel consumption? It's hard to say that new E10 fuel contributes greatly to increasing combustion. The difference between the combustion of E5 and E10 gasoline may be approximately 1-2%. So it is insignificant.

What if you fill up with E10 fuel in an unsuitable car?

First of all, it is worth remembering that E10 fuel should not be refueled in a car that is not factory-adapted to the new gasoline. What will happen if we refuel E10 in a car not adapted to this fuel? You probably don't have to worry, but in the long run, such refueling may result in damage to the fuel system

What to refuel if the car is not compatible with E10 fuel?

Refueling the car

Although most vehicles can be refueled with E10, unfortunately this is not the case with all. What to do in such a situation? Then it will be necessary to refuel with E5 fuel. How to continue refueling with E5 petrol at a gas station? You will need to use a more expensive one 98 E5 petrol. This will still contain up to 5% biocomponents. So it won't be a problem for your car! Of course, there is an option that you will fill up with the wrong fuel. How to do it? We advise in our article – how to drain fuel from the tank?

New petrol – take care of your engine!

You can find many preparations on the market designed to take care of the engine. They allow for use in various types of drive units - including those adapted to new E10 petrol.

We recommend it My Auto Engine Doctor engine regenerator. The product is designed to seal piston rings, reduce oil consumption and reduce smoke. Protects the engine against rapid wear.

Use regenerators with every oil change, regardless of the type of fuel used. In this way, you can even more effectively reduce the amount of pollutants entering the environment.

Products that work great, especially in the winter season, when problems with starting the engine often occur.

We hope that our article answered your doubts about the new E10 fuel. In the vast majority of cases, the change will be imperceptible. However, it is worth checking whether the car can be refueled with new gasoline. Otherwise, it will be necessary to use 98, which will still be in the E5 variant.
