What do you associate Paris with? With the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysees, Louvre or Notre Dame Cathedral? Did you know that there are car fairs in the capital of France? In addition, it is the oldest event of this type in Europe, which celebrated its 120th anniversary this year! Yes, yes - its origins date back to 1898. Are you curious what car manufacturers have prepared this time? I invite you to a virtual tour, perhaps one of you will see a model that will soon become your property. I already have several types.

Honors of the hosts of the house

Since we are in France, let's start with the producers there. Until recently, we would only mention the big three - Citroen, Peugeot and Renault. Today, this group is complemented by Alpine, Dacia, DS and Opel. Opel, recently acquired by the PSA Group from General Motors, was absent from this list.

Today, Alpine is a separate brand of super sports cars derived from Renault, which still promotes the first A 110 model - more about it can be found in the spring entry from Geneva. A similar move was made by Citroen, which separated DS from its structure a few years ago. Today it is a luxury brand, which may explain why we rarely see these models on the street. It's a pity, because it combines French design finesse with great attention to every detail. It's worth seeing the example of the new DS 3 Crossback. Both it and the top DS 7 Crossback will soon have an electric version. But we are already used to such news.

Citroen, Renault, Dacia

Citroen showed an absolute novelty in its offer. This is the C5 Aircross, which can be considered... the flagship model of this brand! In fact, it is based on the already known Opel Grandland X and Peugeot 3008. This model will also be available as a plug-in hybrid.

I give the title of Master of Design to Peugeot e-Legend Concept. This is a reference to the style of cars from the 60s and 70s, whose drive has now been changed to electric in line with the times. I wonder if it will go into series production? Well, accountants don't know about such projects :) However, a station wagon version will soon join the 508 sedan. OK, the shape of this model also stands out in city traffic.

Renault presented the new Kadjar, but we can immediately ignore it. This is because in the center of the stand there were projects straight from science-fiction stories. It was a vision of a future city vehicle (not to be confused with the A or B segment) and a premium model, as well as a vehicle for logistics companies, e.g. for delivering ordered purchases home. What they all had in common - apart from their space-age shapes - was electric drive and, of course, autonomous driving. Distant future? No, I have the impression that this revolution in our lives is already happening here and now.

Renault also owns the Dacia brand. There's not much new here, just for the record, here's some information about the delicate bodywork and the debuting power unit. It is a gasoline engine with a capacity of 75 horsepower.

What's up with the competition?

There's probably a lot going on. But this year in Paris, many passenger car brands offered in Europe were simply not present. Despite this, the attendance record was broken anyway. Over a million people visited the exhibition over two weeks!

Among the manufacturers present at the fair, BMW showed, among others, a new three in the sedan body, Kia Ceeda (now we write the name together) station wagon, Mercedes another generation of the B-Class, SEAT another SUV with the sonorous name Tarraco, Suzuki the off-road Jimny (it was tempting to off-road test drive), and Toyota returns to the Corolla model!

Against this background, the competition between luxury electric SUVs is extremely interesting. Audi is already introducing the e-tron model into series production, and Mercedes is preparing – under a separate brand – EQC. Chasing the pair is BMW with its iX3 Concept.

Alternative drive?

Naturally, the automotive world is moving towards alternative drives. This was seen in the examples of numerous models with hybrid or electric drives. New products in this range include the Honda CR-V, Kia eNiro, Toyota Camry and the entire Lexus exhibition.

There were also, although necessarily fewer of them, concept cars. The announcement of a model from the near future was the Skoda Vision RS (we already know that under the market name Scala it will replace the Rapid in the offer). A little further to final production is the Hyundai Le Fil Rouge.

Companies from the Far East tried to take advantage of the absence of many brands. While we have become accustomed to Chinese manufacturers - this time it was the entire range of GAC Motor models, the Vietnamese came as a surprise. VinFast is a debutant on the European market, its two models made a great visual impression. With what effect, time will tell.

Which of these models are candidates for my car? The answers are hidden – although very clumsily – in the above text :)
