Let's start from the beginning, that is, by explaining what this three-letter abbreviation means. Well HSA system is the hill start assistant, makes it easier for the driver to start moving with the handbrake. The extension of the abbreviation is Hill Start Assist. Thanks to this technology, there is no need to apply the handbrake and release it simultaneously with pressing the gas pedal. Remember: the hill start assist system can be deactivated. However, the method of deactivating the technology varies depending on the car model. This is usually quite difficult - you have to perform several actions in a specific order to turn off this system. This cannot be done by accident.
Extended hill start assistant
Interestingly, hill start assistant it can also take a more extensive form. In some cars, it is enriched with technology that also works on flat surfaces. Then its task is to support the start - e.g. when standing in a traffic jam.
In the extended version, the HSA is often equipped with a button that activates the function on a flat surface. It is usually located next to the drive mode selector knob or near the gear lever.
Which cars use hill start assist?
Hill start assist is used in most new cars. Various brands use it, including: Opel, Audi, Fiat, Ford, Toyota, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen.
