More and more safety systems are used in modern cars. They are often able to spot a threat much faster than the driver himself and increase driving comfort. What are the most popular technologies in modern cars? How do they work and how do they affect driving?

  • Modern cars are equipped with an increasing number of car security systems.
  • Systems such as ABS, EBS, ESP, BLIS, BAS, FCW and reversing cameras and sensors are often available.
  • Despite increasingly better technology, drivers should remain focused on the road.
  • Check how much fuel your car burns, use it fuel consumption calculator!

Primarily car security systems they perform different functions. They make it easier to stay in the lane, park, and maintain driving stability during sudden braking. Learn about the most commonly used security systems in vehicles.

The most popular security systems in cars

Various technologies are used in modern cars - most often it depends on the manufacturer's vision. Most popular car safety systems then currently:

  • ABS,
  • ESP,
  • blind spot monitoring technology,
  • cameras and reversing sensors,
  • BAS
  • FCW.

There are, of course, many more car security systems. In addition to those mentioned, it is worth mentioning a system that monitors driver fatigue, traction control and even road sign recognition.

ABS safety system

ABS has been around for several decades. Since 2004, it has been the basic equipment of all cars available in the EU. Its purpose is to help maintain stability and maintain directional control while braking.

For standard braking ABS system remains off. It is only activated in emergency situations. Sudden braking may cause the wheels to lock, which is extremely dangerous. How does ABS work? ABS dispenses the pressure by pulsating, so the driver can maintain control over the driving direction.

Safety system for stabilization - ESP

ESP is, however car security system, which allows the vehicle to maintain the appropriate trajectory. Collects information from the steering angle sensor. It also analyzes the current speed. Based on all this data, it determines the driving path and compares it with the one selected by the driver.

If the path the driver is traveling on is significantly different from the one calculated, ESP applies the brakes on some wheels and reduces the engine speed. Thanks to this, the car can return to the correct route. From 2014, such a system can be found in all passenger cars and commercial vehicles weighing up to 3,5 tons.

Detection of a vehicle in the blind spot - BLIS system

Driving

BLIS it car security system, which is designed to detect a vehicle located in the so-called blind spot. It starts automatically when the engine is turned on. It uses digital cameras placed on the side mirrors that monitor the surroundings during the day and at night. The BLIS system was first used in 2001 and appears especially in Volvo vehicles - the inventor of this technology.

Reversing cameras and sensors

Driving a car

Oczywiście safety systems in motor vehicles it also includes cameras and reversing sensors. They are especially useful when parking. They don't make you safer when driving at high speeds, but they can protect you from damaging your car or another person's car. They make parking much easier.

Cameras and sensors are usually placed on the front and rear. How do they work? The image recorded by the car is displayed on the car's screen, and often also the turning lines of the wheels. The sensors emit a characteristic sound informing about approaching an obstacle. Some cars also brake automatically when the distance is too small.

BAS security system

The BAS system is a braking assistant that is part of the ABS. Its task is to support the driver during the maneuver. How does BAS work? It analyzes the pace and pressure on the brake pedal and then maximizes the process. This occurs by generating more pressure in the braking system.

FCW Forward Collision Warning System

Do car security systems can and even must be included as well FCW forward collision warning system. This system uses a camera to scan the road in adjacent lanes and in front of the vehicle and assesses the distance to potential hazards. When they are too small, it displays warnings or sounds an alarm and, in some cases, may cause the vehicle to stop.

Car safety systems are designed to reduce the risk of accidents. They support the driver in everyday driving, often reacting faster than a human. Nowadays, they are used in almost every car - some technologies are mandatory.
