Car polishing techniques - wet and dry wax. What does wax protect the body against?…
Types and characteristics of car fuses

The electrical installation is a critical element of the car's construction, and its weakest points are car fuses. They are closed in special boxes located under the hood on the driver's side and under the dashboard. Even one blown fuse prevents us from driving the vehicle. It is necessary to replace it. The problem arises when we have to choose the right one. They differ in current intensity, which is marked with appropriate colors. Despite their small size, car fuses play an important role in safety.
Car fuse – how it works
Hard to believe, but small car fuses protect the car against serious breakdowns. They are responsible for the proper operation of electrical devices. When one of them burns out, the device for which it was responsible is turned off. The cabin light or radio may be turned off.
Car fuses – what are they for?
Many fuses are used in a car, which is necessary due to the presence of a large number of electrical systems with different voltages. Thanks to this, a failure of e.g. wipers does not lead to the engine stopping. Car fuses are used, among others: for sound signals, cabin lighting, alternator, fuel pump and front and rear window heating.
How fuses protect against burning
Car fuses they burn out and thus protect the car against much more serious failures. When a short circuit or overload occurs, specific fuses take on the increased load. This results in disconnection of the electrical circuit. This blows the fuse. Thanks to this, the entire installation does not overheat and, even in extreme situations, it does not cause a fire.
Car fuse – characteristics
The most important parameters of car fuses include current and voltage. It is on this basis that we can distinguish types of car fuses. When it comes to voltage, we can choose from 12 or 24V. In the case of amperage, there are more types of fuses, which are divided into mini and normal fuses with an amperage of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7,5, 10, 15, 20 or 25 A, and maxi fuses, whose amperage can be 30, 40, 50 or 60 A.
The color of a fuse informs us about the amperage of a particular fuse.
Car fuses – symbols
Types of car fuses we can divide them according to their intensity. Which color corresponds to a specific value?
gray – 2 A
purple – 3 A
orange or beige – 5 A
brown – 7,5 A
red – 10 A and 50 A
blue – 15 A
yellow – 20 A
white – 25 A
green – 30 A
orange – 40 A
Car fuses - replacement
Before you replace the burnt ones car fuses, check if they actually require it. To do this, it is worth removing the cover of the fuse box and then, on the inner part of the cover, locate the place where the one responsible for the faulty system is located. Then we remove the fuse using a gripper. If it is burned out, we replace it with the same one but new. Therefore, it is worth having in your home workshop car fuse set consisting of several fuses with different amperages. You will find them, among others: My Auto offer.
Place the new fuse in the appropriate place, also using a gripper. Press its upper part with your finger and it's ready.
Replacing fuses yourself is not difficult, but you need to locate the blown one carefully and assess whether it is blown. Of course you also need to have one car fuse set.
